New Additions at Hiram House to Open This Summer
Fourth New Log Cabin Underway in Pioneer Circle
The fourth new Log Cabin, built in the heart of Pioneer Circle, is nearly ready and will open for campers this summer.
Centrally located on the 172 acre camp site, it will be available year-round for use by Summer Camps, School Camps and Group Retreats.
The all-weather cabin features 4,300 sq.ft., a central Great Room for meeting or instruction space, overnight lodging for up to 30 campers and supervisory staff, a screened sun porch, showers, restrooms and foyer. It offers handicapped access and state of the art fire and safety systems.
The new Cabin is part of Hiram House’s Master Plan to enhance the camp.

Adventure Center to add New Teambuilding Elements
The Adventure Center will add several exciting new elements to the Teambuilding programs in the coming months.
They will be integrated into the camp’s recently built High Ropes, Low Ropes and Obstacle Courses.
Along with the 35-ft. Alpine Climbing Tower, these hands-on facilities will offer campers a great opportunity to challenge themselves and learn teambuilding skills. Read more...

International Week Returns to Summer Overnight Camp
International Week at Summer Overnight Camp will be back in 2013 for the third consecutive year with students from Brazil’s prestigious 4-C Bilingual Academy joining us. This popular program will be offered during Session IV, June 30-July 5.
A special Cultural Night will be held that week with a multi-national dinner and activities for all Summer Overnight Campers to enjoy. This is a great opportunity to make new friends from around the world and learn about other cultures.

Year after year, Hiram House seasonal staff members consistently return to tell us that their time at camp was one of their best memories and most rewarding summer jobs of their lives.
Where else can you enjoy the great outdoors, meet great friends, have fun, and make a positive difference in the life of a child, all at the same time? Each year, our summer staff is drawn from some fifty U.S.colleges & universities.
Hiram House is now hiring for 2013 summer positions, including counselors, specialists, lifeguards, maintenance, and others.

Board Re-elects Officers for 2013
The Hiram House Board of Trustees re-elected officers for 2013 at their recent annual meeting.
Re-elected were officers Kevin D. Barnes, President; Spencer N. Pisczak, Vice President-Finance & Treasurer, Michael R. Canty, Vice President-Development; and Russell R. Grundke, Secretary
Barnes is Counsel & Partner-in-Charge of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP Cleveland; Pisczak is President of Premier Development; Canty is President & CEO of Alloy Bellows & Precision Welding, and Grundke is Executive Director of Hiram House, the nonprofit organization operating Hiram House Camp.
Board President Kevin D. Barnes to Lead Law Firm
Hiram House Board of Trustees President Kevin D. Barnes was recently named as Partner-in-Charge of the Cleveland office of Taft Law firm.
Barnes joined Taft in September 2008 with the merger of his prior firm, Kahn Kleinman, with Taft. Barnes is a graduate of Harvard Collegeand Harvard Law School.
His practice focuses on international business, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions. Barnes has been listed in Best Lawyers inAmericafor over ten years and has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer numerous times.
Taft’s Cleveland office is home to more than 50 attorneys who serve clients locally, nationally and internationally.

Get Ready for Summer at Hiram House Camp

Summer is almost here!
New and exciting changes await you at camp this year.
Construction in nearly finished on the fourth new residential Log Cabin to open at Hiram House. Also in progress are new elements coming soon to our Teambuilding Adventure Center. These will be used by children, teens and adults who attend the camp each year.
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new and returning School Camps and Retreat Groups this spring. New dates are also available for fall, so now is a great time to reserve your space.
The Hiram House staff is also busy preparing to welcome all our Summer Campers for a great new season, including campers from Brazil, who will join us in late June for “International Week 2013” at Summer Camp.
Hiram House is pleased to be featured in Camp Navigator magazine this spring, highlighting the many benefits of camping for boys and girls (see more details below).
Our sincere thanks to all those who came out to support us at “Chili Night Out” (read more about it in this issue). It was a big hit and raised thousands of dollars for children in need to attend summer camp.
Please watch for details of other upcoming events at Hiram House, especially our ever popular Pumpkin Festival this fall, that also benefits our Campership Fund.

The 42nd Pumpkin Festival at Hiram House Camp promises to be another great time!

This annual event benefits our Campership Fund for Kids.

Lodging, Dining, Meeting facilities are offered, with optional meal service, Outdoor Education & Recreation programs and/or Teambuilding Adventure.
“Chili Night Out” - Fun for All!
Drew Hundreds, Raised Thousands for Campership Fund
“Chili Night Out” on Feb. 23 attracted hundreds of chili lovers for a fun-filled winter evening at camp and raised thousands of dollars to benefit the Hiram House Campership Fund to enable children in need to attend a life-enriching stay at summer camp.
Guests enjoyed a delicious smorgasbord of hot chili and all the fixin’s to satisfy every taste, including spicy, beef, turkey and vegetarian, warm cornbread, tossed salad greens, assorted cookies, plus a selection of fine wines and beers to sample.
Lucky winners picked out their numbers and tickets for ca$h raffles with sideboards, plus drawings for wine, beer, chili and snacks gift baskets, as they listened to lively music and conversation around a roaring fireplace in rustic Taylor Dining Hall.
Thanks to everyone who attended or supported the event, including our wonderful “Chili Night Out” volunteers and staff, as well as those from Case Western Reserve Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and Colonial Beverage!
