Western Riding & Horsemanship

Hiram House Camp offers western-based lessons to children, youth, and adults aged 7 and up. Students gain a plethora of riding skills, ranging from elementary steering to advanced concepts like collection, lateral movement, and pattern execution.

Along with riding, our program focuses heavily on horsemanship and horse welfare, including skills in horse health, care, behavior, and stable etiquette.

Lesson Details, Schedules & Fees

Embarking on your horseback riding journey is an exciting adventure! Individual western riding lessons run in 4-week sessions for riders looking to build foundational and advanced horsemanship skills. Single-lesson options are also available.

Lesson Schedule & Time Slots

  • Session Start: Individual lessons start the week of October 5th
  • Session Length: 4 weeks
  • Monday – Thursday Time Slots: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturday Time Slots: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Required Attire & Gear

Participants will need jeans or long pants and boots with a heel. Riding helmets will be provided by Hiram House Camp.

For the safety and well-being of both our horses and riders, participants must weigh under 250 lbs to participate in horseback riding programs.

What equipment will I need to start riding?2026-04-23T03:42:13+00:00

For each lesson, students must wear jeans or breeches. Closed toed shoes with a flat sole and 3/4″ heel. For single lessons, a helmet will be provided. All other lessons, students will need to purchase their own helmet. Riding helmets need to be ASI approved. Students will not be able to ride without a helmet.

Safety is our priority. We provide semi-private lessons with a student-to-instructor ratio of 2:1, ensuring personalized attention. Helmets are also provided to prioritize safety.
