Packing List
Essential Clothing
- T-shirts: Pack enough T-shirts for each day of camp, plus a few extras in case of spills or mud. Choose lightweight, breathable materials to keep your child cool.
- Shorts: Comfortable shorts are a must for active play. Pack a variety of shorts, including athletic and casual styles.
- Socks: Include several pairs to ensure your child’s feet stay dry and comfortable. Consider moisture-wicking socks for added comfort during physical activities.
- Underwear: Enough pairs to last the entire camp duration, plus a few extra for emergencies.
- Pajamas: Pack lightweight pajamas for warm nights and include a long-sleeve option if it gets cooler.
- Swimwear: At least two swimsuits so one can dry while the other is in use. Don’t forget a cover-up for trips to the pool or lake.
Footwear:
- Sneakers: A good pair of sneakers is essential for everyday activities and sports. Ensure they are broken in to avoid blisters.
- Hiking Boots: Sturdy, comfortable hiking boots are ideal for nature hikes and outdoor adventures. Make sure they are broken in before camp.
- Sandals: Waterproof sandals are great for water activities and casual wear around the camp. Choose a pair with good support and straps.
- Special Requirements: Check if specific activities require specific footwear, such as water shoes for canoeing.
Bedding & Sleeping Gear:
- Sleeping Bag: Choose a sleeping bag appropriate for the season. Make sure it is comfortable and provides adequate warmth.
- Pillow: A small, comfortable pillow from home can help your child feel more at ease. Consider a pillow with a washable cover.
- Blankets: Pack an extra blanket for added warmth and comfort, especially for cooler nights.
Toiletries:
- Toothbrush and Toothpaste: Pack these in a small toiletry bag to keep them clean and organized.
- Shampoo and Soap: Travel-sized bottles are convenient and take up less space.
- Deodorant: Essential for personal hygiene, especially during active days.
- Comb or Brush: A small, durable comb or brush to keep hair tidy.
Camp Equipment:
- Flashlight: A reliable flashlight with extra batteries for nighttime activities and trips to the bathroom.
- Water Bottle: A sturdy, reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Backpack: A durable backpack to carry daily essentials and personal items.
- Reusable Bag: A foldable bag for dirty laundry or extra storage.

- Games: Travel-sized games for fun with friends during downtime.
Special Considerations for Campers
Weather-Related Items:
- Raincoat: A lightweight, waterproof raincoat for unexpected showers.
- Sunscreen: High SPF sunscreen to protect against sunburn. Pack enough for daily application.
- Hats: A wide-brimmed hat to shield from the sun.
Health & Safety:
- First Aid Kit: A small first aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and other essentials. We will also have many First Aid Kits on hand at the camp.
- Medications: Any necessary medications should be clearly labeled with dosage instructions.
- Allergy Medications: If applicable, pack allergy medications and inform camp staff of any allergies.
- Insect Repellent: To keep mosquitoes and other bugs at bay.
Items Not to Bring to Camp
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, it’s important to leave certain items at home:
- Valuables: Jewelry, expensive electronics, and other valuable items can easily get lost or damaged.
- Food and Snacks: Outside food can attract wildlife and may not align with the camp’s dietary policies and allergy considerations.
- Weapons: Any type of weapon, including knives and firearms, is strictly prohibited.
- Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco: These items are forbidden and can lead to serious consequences if found.
- Fireworks: Dangerous and are not permitted on Hiram House Camp grounds.
- Irreplaceable Items: Sentimental or one-of-a-kind items can get lost or damaged, so it’s best to leave them at home.
- Pets: While it might be tempting to bring a pet for comfort, they are generally not allowed at camp.
- Expensive Clothing: Camp activities can get messy, so leave any designer or delicate clothing at home.
- Inappropriate Reading Material: Books and magazines that are not suitable for all ages should stay at home.
Tips for Packing
- Label Belongings: Use permanent markers or labels to identify all of your items with your child’s first and last name. This helps prevent loss and mix-ups.
- Packing Efficiently: Roll clothes to save space and prevent wrinkles. Use packing cubes to stay organized.
- Keeping Valuables Safe: Store valuable items in a secure place, such as a locker or a personal bag that can be kept with your child.
Packing for camp can be a fun and bonding experience. By following this checklist, you’ll ensure that your child is well-prepared for all the exciting activities at Hiram House Camp. We can’t wait to welcome your camper and help them create unforgettable memories!
